Friday Faves

Good morning! Since giving up FB and IG from 9 am to 9 pm for Lent (and I’m loving it, by the way), I have struggled with getting my Faves in. Here I am, bright and early this week to make sure the Faves get done.

1) When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi Hudson read this book a couple of years ago. It is the memoir of Paul Kalanithi, a neurosurgeon at Stanford University, who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in his mid-thirties. He uses the pages in this book not only to tell his story, but also share his ideas on how to approach death with grace and what it means to be fully alive. I copied the summary I just gave you. It is a book way out of my normal genre. Now that Hudson is a doctor, I try to understand his world a little better, I try to look at gross things, ha, and just understand. One “wow” quote for me was this: As a resident, my highest ideal was not saving lives-everyone dies eventually-but guiding a patient or family to an understanding of death or illness. I thought about that concept for days. Actually, after listening to the book on Audible, I purchased a hard copy to highlight the many “wow” concepts in the book. Most people I’ve told about the book tell me they don’t want to read about a person dying of cancer, they read to escape. I get that. I am the same, but I am so glad I read this book.

2) That’s All Coffee Mugs Bringing it back now to my normal intellectual level, I got a new coffee mug to add to my enormous collection of coffee mugs. A lot of you know that Walt brings me coffee each morning and he chooses the sentiment of the day. Sometimes it’s my sports’ team who’s won, but usually it’s one of my That’s All mugs with sentiments like “I love you” or “Her Royal Highness” or “You’re stuck with me”, etc. I got a new mug this week: “Who needs the internet, my husband knows everything”. He loves this coffee mug. I do too, but I ask you, do you see two ways to interpret it?

3) skinbetter science AlphaRet and Alto Advanced Oh how I have missed these absurdly expensive products. My face has missed them too! I use one in the morning and the other at night. They were recommended to me by an aesthetician, and then my dermatologist confirmed they are worth the $$$. I guess I justify that I really don’t get Botox or chemical peels or anything extra. (maybe I should, ha!) My face is pretty sensitive, but tolerates these products on a daily basis. Sometimes you don’t realize what a product actually does until you stop using it.

4) The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen Since I didn’t get Faves in last week, you get two books. I have been a “reading” machine lately. I really liked this book! I read it quickly because I wanted to see what would happen next. Lots of twists and turns, I did have a sneaking suspicion of whodunnit, but it was very entertaining and I didn’t have the whole story mapped out. As for the mystery/thriller books I’ve read this year, this one has been my favorite I think.

Have a great weekend! We have lots of fun things planned.
