Wednesday Faves Week #5

Image
Can y'all believe tomorrow is February 1?  One whole month of 2018 is gone!  We are in Week #5 of this year.  Does that make me old that I talk about time flying??  Probably so.  Anyway, on to the Faves.  Drumroll please..... 1) This Clinique Color Pop lipstick is pretty cool.  The reviews said it made your teeth appear whiter.  It kind of does, I'm not sure how, but I love that! I wish it came in more colors and I would use it all the time because who doesn't like whiter teeth?! 2) This favorite may be risky, but that's okay.  Sam Smith has a new song called Pray.  I have had prayer on my mind this year, A LOT.  With adult children who no longer listen to me that much, I have no control (not that I ever did).  So I committed to letting go and praying for them this year.  On the radio, they said Sam was embarrassed that he didn't know all the things going on in the world and frustrated by them, so he turned to pr...

Book 2 The Truth We Bury

Image
Big sigh...this will be a quick post at I am heading out the door to mentoring, but I just finished my second book of 2018.  I did not love it.  As a matter of fact, I just wanted it to be over.  I know, I know, people say if you aren't enjoying a book, just put it down.  But I don't feel that way.  I feel like I've wasted a week or so getting to that point if I don't see it through.   I'm not sure what turned me off of this book so much.  It was set in Texas and I find it annoying when authors feel they have to make their characters so stereotypical "Texan".  I also feel the characters were very whiny and "why me".  I'm sure a lot of people will love this book, but it was so sappy (even though it was a mystery) and I just don't care for sappy.  So, when people ask me to recommend a book to them, this one will not be one I'll recommend.  Go to Amazon, look at the description, and decide for yourself.  I'm ready for...

Wednesday Faves Week #4

Image
Can you believe we are already in Week #4 of 2018?  I am in Fayetteville, Arkansas today, visiting my middle child.  But still the Faves must go on!! 1) My new blog site design.  If you spend any time with me you know I love to change things up: my phone cover, screensaver, laptop case, purse, and now my blog site!  The first day I started fiddling around with it, I think I changed it about 7 times.  I listened to feedback and incorporated some of it.  I like it a lot, but I am still itching to tweak it!  Of course I am.  I told my friend Kim not to let me change it too often, and she said I could change it on the first day of every month.  Yikes!  That's more than I thought...I really want to find one I love, and stick with it for familiarity.  I really like this one a lot (for now), but don't be surprised if it changes a few more times. 2) Pure Barre.  Who knew?  I started taking classes at Pure Barre this month an...

How Do You Organize Your Thoughts?

Image
I love being organized! My planner is organized, my drawers are organized, my flatware, dishes, shoes, socks, etc. etc.  I am always looking for the "right" way to organize something.  But, alas, there is something I haven't quite found the right way to organize: my thoughts.  You know those random thoughts from "buy creamer" to "I should watch this on Netflix" to "tell Walt to bring home more AA batteries"...you get the idea.  Those thoughts that you get when you are in the shower, at the dentist, on your way to a meeting, or basically anyplace but sitting in front of your laptop/iPad or planner.  Actually, even when you are sitting in front of your laptop/iPad or planner!  Where do you put these thoughts so you can find them again?   My dad always carried around a teeny tiny spiral notepad and pen in his front pocket.  As a matter of fact, he was buried with a teeny tiny spiral notepad and pen in his front pocket.  We all wrote a sp...

Wednesday Faves Week #3

Image
It was super important (and a little challenging) for me to find Faves today.  What was supposed to be a glorious morning of sleeping in, turned into a crazy night of slapstick comedy proportions!  At 2:05 am we were slammed awake by the blood curdling fire alarms going off all over our house.  We were literally running around in circles trying to figure out what to do.  We finally turned them off, only to hit the "snooze" on them every 10 minutes for the next 6 hours!  No joke.  We've silenced them for now, but will be getting them replaced and going to bed early tonight.  Our smoke detectors are currently my NOT Faves, but of course I found my Faves to share: 1) My middle child, Harrison, is truly like MacGiver.  Finley, the dog, was playing around and pounced on the remote, knocking the "Select" button off.  We can't find it, and she may or may not have eaten it. Naughty Finley. You don't realize how often you use something until ...

Why Didn't I Think of That?!

Image
I love unique innovative things.  I love books.  I think I'm a pretty creative person.  Having said that, I'm not sure if I have it in me to think of ideas this cool.   The 52-lists Project is a combo book/journal.  Every week you are given a list prompt.  For example, Week 1: List your hopes and dreams for the year (basically your resolutions) and Week 2: Name your favorite book and movie characters.  After you've had some time to compile the lists, the author gives you a "Take Action".  This is where it gets interesting to me. I chose as my favorite characters (they were all from movies, none from books): Meryl Streep, It's Complicated Olympia Dukakis, Steel Magnolias Kate Winslet, The Holiday Tea Leoni, The Family Man Nicholas Cage, The Rock Buddy, Elf Billy Crystal, When Harry Met Sally Billy Crystal, City Slickers I can never actually remember the characters' names, but they are my favorites nonetheless!...

Wednesday Faves Week #2

Image
Good morning!  It's Wednesday, so time for my Faves! 1) Sugarbear Hair Gummies was recommended to me by Facebook (I'm such a sucker!).  I mean if it's good for the Kardashians...but seriously, I have seen a HUGE difference in my hair and lots of hair growth!  I kind of feel like a Chia pet! 2) My youngest child, Hudson, sent me this without me asking him.  That right there is enough to land him on my Faves list (he loves it when makes the list, ha, ha!).  But, the caption, which got cut out of the photo said: Last first day!  This is his last first day of college, sniff, sniff.  It's bittersweet because he loves Auburn so much. 3) Someone emailed this list of 365 Thought Provoking Questions You Should Ask in 2018 to my hubs, and we decided to ask each other a question daily.  We were going to extend it to our children, but didn't think they would participate.  I did decide to share the QOD with my friends Mona, Donna and Kim. ...

A Review of the Wednesday Not-So-Faves

Image
I have been posting my Wednesday Faves for a long time.  Have you ever wondered if I am still loving all of them?  I decided to put together a list of 4 Faves that have lost their favor, ha, ha!  These four things are still, by and large, GREAT products, they just come with their share of "issues" that have taken them down from Fave status.  Let me explain. 1. This toiletry bag (bottom right).  It's not padded so some of my toiletries got damaged the first time I used it.  It could be a fluke since it didn't happen the second time, but it's never happened with any of my padded toiletry bags. 2.  Don't hate me, but LipSense (bottom left).  I LOVE the concept, LOVE the colors, but LipSense does not love my lips and face.  It dried out my lips and actually even the skin around my lips.  I know so many people that use it without incident, unfortunately, I am not one of them. 3.  My Sleep Tea (bottom left).  ...

A Fresh Start in 2018

Image
As I alluded to in my Faves yesterday, New Year's gives us a chance for a fresh start.  I, for one, could use a fresh start!  I feel that way most years, but especially this year.  I'm definitely feeling my age, and last year was a heavy one both mentally and physically.  But it's a new year, y'all, and I am inspired!   While freezing all day on Tuesday, and procrastinating because it was too cold to do anything, I found a great deal of inspiration online! Here are a few of my favorites: Ok, I'm sorry, I just think the one about the leggings is hilarious!  I had to include that one!  There were so many others, but these all really spoke to me, especially the last one: Just start!  I have a tendency to be a perfectionist, and one of the inspirational nuggets I "pocketed" from the internet said, "Perfectionism is a root cause of procrastination".  I whole-heartedly believe this, at least as it relates to me.  I can...

It's Here! It's Here!

Image
So, I'm finally doing it!  Welcome to The Candee Dish!  After overwhelming encouragement from my friend, Kim Morris, as well as my hubby and a couple of besties, I am launching this blog!  The site is still under construction, and I have SO much to learn about blogging and blog sites, but I knew if I didn't just start, if I waited for everything to be perfect, it would never happen.  If you choose to follow along with me, please be patient.  Ha, ha!  I felt like it was only fitting to begin on the first Wednesday of 2018 with my Wednesday Faves!  I love them, you love them, and it's DEFINITELY a subject I'm comfortable with!  So here we go! 1) I love New Year's because social media is filled with encouragement, inspiration, and ideas for a fresh start!  There are so many I could have chosen, but this one is succinct and spot on!  I love it!!   2) I really like these free printable calendar pages.  I have a pl...
