A Fresh Start in 2018
As I alluded to in my Faves yesterday, New Year's gives us a chance for a fresh start. I, for one, could use a fresh start! I feel that way most years, but especially this year. I'm definitely feeling my age, and last year was a heavy one both mentally and physically. But it's a new year, y'all, and I am inspired!
While freezing all day on Tuesday, and procrastinating because it was too cold to do anything, I found a great deal of inspiration online! Here are a few of my favorites:
Ok, I'm sorry, I just think the one about the leggings is hilarious! I had to include that one! There were so many others, but these all really spoke to me, especially the last one: Just start! I have a tendency to be a perfectionist, and one of the inspirational nuggets I "pocketed" from the internet said, "Perfectionism is a root cause of procrastination". I whole-heartedly believe this, at least as it relates to me. I can't tell you how often I can't "move" on something because it may not be perfect.
This blog is a great example. I have a draft saved from March 2016, MARCH 2016, PEOPLE, which says: So...next month. It's really almost here. I'll say it out loud. I am turning 50 in April. I was visiting with my friend Kim today, telling her all of these mature thoughts I had been having lately. I said to her, "I don't know where this is coming from!" and she told me it was because I was 50. She said I was becoming wise in my old age, or at least losing my filter! As she was nursing the lump on her head from where I knocked her out (I'm kidding of course), she said to me, "You need to get that blog up and running! It's clear you have a lot to say, and I'll read it!" I have literally been talking about this blog for over two years, and just sitting on it, because it wasn't yet perfect. So....I decided to just start writing (after much urging/pestering from Kim as well as the Blogger's box for a Christmas present) and the crazy beautiful site will come later. Just start!

Now, that is inspiring...and freeing! It's a new year, is there something or many things you need to "just start"?

Candee... congrats on your blog... I'll be tuning in! If you haven't read Shauna Niequist's book, Present over Perfect, you should. It is such a significant read. Look forward to your posts. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cynthia! I will definitely check it out! In Creative Memories (scrapbooking way back when...) they used to say "Done is better than perfect". I cannot tell you how many times I had to recite that when working on a page!
DeleteLove this! I have start writing in a more serious way this year. I have invited to be a regular writer for a Christian Women's Blog and it has help jump start me to work on my own book which I have been outtting off for over 10 years!

DeleteThat is awesome, Chaundelle! I can't wait to read. I think "Just Start!" is a good motto for 2018. Let's do it!
DeleteBest way to "just start" is to bring people along with you! So yesterday, I "just started" cutting out sugar (again) and I'm bringing my family along. Ha! Wanna eat at my house, you don't get sugar. ;) Here's to "just starting" something in 2018! :)
ReplyDeleteNow. Who's gonna drink all that wine we bought when Wendell and I made separate and unknowing trips to Sam's and Costco and BOTH restocked the cabinet supply...?? #oops
