Friday Faves

Hello! I feel like it’s been awhile since I’ve posted Faves.   1) JFK One Day in America  This was a very interesting 3-part documentary that Hulu suggested for me, but it’s a Nat Geo production so I’m sure it could be viewed elsewhere. One thing Candee “now” would tell her younger self is to pay attention in History class. It’s actually very interesting! 2) Elizabeth A’s Weddings & Events  I am super fortunate that Elizabeth has been a close friend since Kindergarten, but regardless of that, she is a very talented wedding planner. My entire family would recommend her hands down! I can’t believe Hayley and CJ’s wedding was four weeks ago today! Elizabeth took my vision for the reception and made it happen! She also ran such a smooth, tight ship, that Walt and I were actually able to enjoy the event! Love and highly recommend her! 3) IGK Antisocial Bond Building Dry Mask  I kinda love this stuff! I spray it on my hair at bedtime, not exactly sure what it does, but...

Here we go! My Faves of the the first week of October. 1) Halloween Doormat  Last year, I was feeling a little down and stressed about something and my sweet PP5 (Bible Study) girls gave me this doormat. It was at the end of Halloween, so I was so excited to get to use it this year! Thanks y’all! (And we ARE very into Halloween around here!) 2) The Beanie Bubble Movie  This is on Apple TV right now. I watched it on the plane to Italy. It was good! We love Zach Galafianakis a lot and I am an Elizabeth Banks fan as well. 3) The Doctor’s Wife by Daniel Hurst  This was a good book! Lots of twists and turns in this one, and it has a sequel! I also listened to the sequel and didn’t like it quite as much, but was glad I completed it. Would be shocked if there was no Book #3. 4) My future (in one week) son in law’s cooking  My future SIL cooks for my daughter all the time! He’s awesome! She’s lucky! Last week he brought dinner over for us to share and it was really go...

As of today, Summer is over, so let’s lean into Fall. I wanted to include our Sled Dog Excursion as one of my Faves, but it already seems like so long ago! 1) The Lie in Our Marriage  This book gave me a love/hate feeling, but in the end, I guess love wins. The problem started with the narrator. He was like this English Butler sounding guy telling a story and it was just so odd (especially when he cried like one of the female characters). It was a weird choice for a narrator and was so off putting I almost didn’t continue. I definitely would read this one instead of listen to it. It did have a plot twist I didn’t see coming. I ended up being entertained by this book, but Anna-Lou was giving me some red flags in the beginning. 2) Sunday Citizen XO Throw  I love this blanket! It’s super thick and cozy, but also pretty pricey. I got mine on sale. I was nervous to spend so much since we have dogs and I needed it to be washable. I just washed and dried on “Delicate” and it d...

Summer (Travel) Faves

Image
We just got back from an Alaskan Cruise with our family, and while next week’s Faves may include some things from that adventure, this week’s does kind of have a travel theme, or rather a “things to take on your travels” theme. 1) Phase 10 Card Game  On the cruise we had a couple of days at sea, and played this game for hours! I had played it one time before, many years ago, and didn’t love it. Maybe it was right time, right place, and my family really likes to play games, but this was so much fun!! (I don’t like the skip card being used against me though!) I purchased this game and can’t wait to play it at home! 2) None of This is True by Lisa Jewell  Yes, I know, I gave this book its own post, but I loved it and it is great to take on a trip (much better than the book I actually did bring on the trip…) I listened to this book and highly recommend that, but reading it would be great too! 3) Women’s Poncho Sweater Travel Shawl  I keep one of these (usually a black ...

Favorite Book of the Year!

Image
This book gets a post all it’s own! It is my FAVORITE book of the year this far, and it was my 29th book of 2023.  I listened on Audible, and I highly recommend that route. It was like a whole production. But I think it would be equally as good to read. I could not put this book down. And, I actually really liked the ending. I almost never like the endings of books, but this one was done well! Leaves you questioning, in a good way. This book gets 5 ⭐️ out of 5 from me!

Summer Faves

It’s still hot, it’s still summer, so Summer Faves edition continues… 1) No One Needs to Know by Lindsay Cameron  This book was described by one reviewer as a cross between Gossip Girl and RHONY. While I’ve never seen either show, my guess is that they’re not wrong! It is a mystery/thriller, it is entertaining, but it’s not deep. Does that make sense? I did not like the narration for Heather (I think Reese Witherspoon would play her in the movie version), and I did not like the ending, but the book entertained me.  2) Wanbasion Blue Professional Kitchen Knife Chef Set  These aren’t that expensive, but they seem to work great! Not sure how long I’ll keep them in the “sheaths” though. Walt loves them just because they “look so cool”. 3) Laifen Swift Premium High-Speed Hair Dryer  I bought this, you guessed it, on impulse from Instagram. To be honest, I liked the color because it matches my bathroom. LUCKY for me, it’s an awesome hairdryer! I think it might make ...

These Faves will hopefully help you stay cool and stay inside. Yesterday was a record breaking HOT one!  1) Addison Ross Bobbin Grinders  I saw these on IG, where else, and wanted to add some color to my kitchen and splurged on them. I love them! They come in a ton of colors and two sizes, so I may have to splurge on one or two more. 🤪 2) Hijack w/Idris Elba on Apple TV  We may very well be late to the Hijack party, but we really enjoyed this series last week. We’ve been trying to cook/eat at home more, and Walt wasn’t traveling, so we watched the whole series in a few days. Love nights/weeks like that! Walt stayed awake for ALMOST the whole series, but he happened to fall asleep at a crucial point so I had lots of explaining to do.  3) Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation  This stuff is very user friendly (which I need)! You just swirl a fluffy brush around in it, it’s a pressed powder consistency, and swirl it on your face....

Here are a few more Summer Faves today: 1) Hello Fresh Honey BBQ Pork Chops  We don’t do Hello Fresh every week anymore, but still do enjoy it. After visiting my friend in KC and seeing how she uses Hello Fresh, I’m going to be using it more. It’s so nice not going out every night. Anyway, this meal of Honey BBQ Pork Chops, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, and Green Beans (I roasted ours) may be one of our favorite all time Hello Fresh meals. It was SO good!  2) Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on Prime Video  We were a bit behind on this series, only completing Seasons 1 and 2, but we were caught up on all of our other shows so I came across this. We finished Seasons 3 and 4 in about a week (another reason for us eating at home so we could watch this 😂) and last night, when I told Walt we were completely finished with the “Final Season”, he was so bummed. He loved this series! 3) Special Ops: Lioness  This is the other show we are watching, but we are caught up and having to wait unti...

Still taking advantage of chill summer time schedules, but I do have some more Faves. 1) Lunar Silks Silk Pillowcases  I have tried a lot of silk pillowcases (apparently satin ones are a big no no) and these are my favorite. They are soft and cool. I recently even bought one for travel. 2) TUNISE Portable Handheld Fan  My friend Kim had a similar one of these on our trip to Cabo. She would set it up on the dinner table. It was awesome! I found this one on Amazon and I already love it! It has 6 speeds, and also folds to sit on the table. I just need to remember to keep it charged because I plan on taking it everywhere this summer. 3) SUN Cosmetic Bag  Once again, Kim coming in clutch (no pun intended)! She gave these to us on our trip to Cabo, and to be honest, at first I thought I would never use it. However, I kept my sunscreens in it while on our trip and also when I got back home. I just put the whole bag in my cabinet and when we are going to the pool I grab th...

Summer Faves

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted Faves, so I’m calling these Summer Faves. I’ve been enjoying summer too much to do Faves every Friday. 1) Soma PJs  I love love love Soma PJs!! I only wear Cool Nights by Soma. These are so cute, sometimes I wear them all day if I’m just working around the house.  2) Coola Scalp & Hair Mist  I found this after my daughter had a different one out at the pool. It’s sunscreen for your part/scalp. Hers made her hair greasy, this one is pretty good. No burned scalp in Cabo last week! 3) Brush On Block Mineral Sunscreen  I just realized upon writing this that I actually bought the wrong thing. I thought I was buying what my friends Valerie and Cynthia use, Colorscience. But my mistake worked out! I love this stuff! It’s 30 SPF but it’s so easy to reapply that my nose and cheeks didn’t really burn while in Cabo. I love this stuff!! I even use it as powder when getting ready for a little extra protection during the day. I just noticed t...

As promised, more Faves this week! 1) Navy Dress from Nordstrom This dress is my Fave because I have never gotten as many compliments in my life! It’s such a cute dress, and will be my go to for events in the future! 2) Glass Straws Hayley and CJ gave me these for Mother’s Day and I really like them. I had just gotten that cute leopard water cup, but sometimes I feel like the water tastes funny because of the plastic. The glass straws have no odd taste at all. 3) Most Dangerous Game Movie on Prime Video This was a surprisingly good movie! It stars Liam Hemsworth and Christopher Walz (you have to be sure you get the right movie if you watch it, apparently there are several with the same title). It’s an action “cat and mouse” situation. Give it a go! 4) Colin Stough & American Idol Season 23 Even though Colin didn’t win AI, he was my favorite. I was happy with the Top 3 and even had them ranked in the correct order of winner, 2nd and 3rd. This whole Season 23 was excellent. Lot...

Friday Faves are running a little late this week, but I already have more lined up for this Friday so I’m squeezing these in! 1) Dicey’s Pizza Tavern Nashville This place is super close to Hudson’s apartment and it’s so yummy. The environment is awesome too! Bonus: there’s a huge guitar right down the street. Great photo op in Nashville! 2) skinbetter science Alto Advanced Serum I love this serum. It’s RIDICULOUSLY expensive, but my face is super sad without it. I justify the price because I don’t get any fillers, peels, whatever else. 😬 Maybe I should, who knows?! 3) The Diplomat on Netflix I’m sure everyone has watched this by now, but if you haven’t DO! It’s really good and I just saw that Season 2 is confirmed! 4) Outdoor Pillow Covers from Etsy With the warmer weather, it’s time to freshen up the patio space and I’m loving these pillow covers!  Stay tuned for more Faves on Friday!

Friday Faves

Good morning! My Faves this week are all about things I’ve been watching and listening to and I’m not mad about it! 1) Treason on Netflix I am always looking for shows to watch with Walt, his viewing “lane” is rather narrow. We watched this whole limited series in one evening. And he stayed awake! We both really enjoyed this one. 2) Friends Like These by Sarah Alderson I listened to this book on Audible. I really enjoyed it! It involves 2 women and social media. What could be better?? Ha, ha! I liked it. 3) Chimp Empire on Netflix Now hear me out. Some of my friends laughed at me about this. I had seen it advertised and I love animal shows, particularly about chimpanzees, monkeys, etc. They are fascinating. Chimp Empire did not disappoint. I watched with my son Harrison. It follows the chimps of Ngogo. Some of them were in their 30s and even 40s! Highly recommend! 4) Ed Sheeran The Sum of It All on Disney+ I stayed up too late to finish this one last night and had to put it in my...

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I don’t really see what all the fuss is all about, but happy Cinco de Mayo nonetheless. 1) Charlotte Tilbury Wedding Belles Lipstick I got this from Sephora. Kind of a splurge for lipstick, but I love CT lipsticks and this color is awesome! 2) Best Mom Ever Coffee Mug This was a birthday gift from my son Harrison. It’s a nice big coffee mug, and of course, Best Mom Ever…thanks Harrison! 3) Boundless Tank from Athleta This top is so cute and has a little sincher in the back at the waist. I was worried the cute ruffled neck would choke me, but I think we’re good! 4) Love & Death on HBO Max I’m obsessed with this show about Candy Montgomery. I’m also obsessed with Elizabeth Olson as Candy. Harrison and I started watching it last week and we got all caught up (after 3 episodes) so now we have to wait a whole week for the next episode to drop. We watched episode 4 yesterday, and wow. Hurry up next Thursday! Get here! Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Friday Faves

Finally back in town. Friday Faves are here! 1) This Is My Milestone Celebration Glass I got this glass from Etsy to celebrate my Peloton milestones, ha! Yesterday I logged 1000+ Peloton classes (yes, this includes Meditation 😂) and a 135-week streak of something Peloton. Cheers! 2) Ray-Ban Sunglasses I love these square sunglasses. They are super fun (and Polarized)! 3) Leopard Water Bottle I just can’t quit my love for leopard. I know, old people love leopard, I know, leopard print is so overused, and while I have toned down my amount of leopard, I can never quit it. It’s just too fun. 4) Accused I have been enjoying this series on Fox this season. Each show is stand alone, and a couple of them have been meh, but overall I have really enjoyed this show! Have a great weekend! Tonight is a rare date night with the hubs.

Good Friday Faves

Image
Hurrying to get my Faves posted because I’m super excited about 3 out of 4 of them! (One in particular!)   1) Jolie Shower Head This was an IG purchase, but I like it a lot! It’s supposed to make your hair and skin less dry, and I think it’s doing that, but I definitely like the pressure of this shower head and it looks cool! There’s a filter I’m supposed to change every 3 months, we’ll see how that goes. 2) Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey I listened to this book on Audible, it’s narrated by Matt so you know it’s animated! I didn’t love it because some of his stories were a little out there, but it was entertaining nevertheless. I don’t regret listening. 3) Daisy Jones & The Six This! This is my most favorite Fave in a long time! I did not like this book at all and had decided not to watch the series. When downloading some things for my trip to Houston last weekend I decided I wanted to give this a try. I am so glad I did!! This is the first thing I’ve watched in a long time...

Good morning! This is no April Fool’s, my Faves really are on Saturday today. 1) The Push by Ashley Audrain This was my 10th book of 2023. Although I’m putting it in my Faves, I’m not totally sure how I feel about this book. A new friend suggested it, and the book warns it could be triggering to some because it deals with abuse, but it’s the ending I had a problem with. I won’t spoil it. If you read it, contact me and tell me how you felt about the ending. 2) Nicebay Electric Gooseneck Kettle I have an electric kettle, but what drew me to this one is that I can control the temperature. I’ve been drinking hot water with lemon before coffee each morning, and I set the temperature for 150, so it’s very warm but not too hot. I’m loving this new morning ritual! 3) Sunday Silks Sleep Mask by Colorado Home On my last trip I was speaking to some ladies about how sleep masks are game changers for them. I laughed and said they aren’t for me. I’d pull them off in the middle of the night, etc. The...

I was awakened by a loud clap of thunder this morning, so I may as well get the Faves going.   1) JSlide Sandals I saw these on Instagram and snatched them up! They were pricier than I would normally spend, but I think they are going to be staples in my wardrobe this year. Super comfortable and super cute! 2) Unmissing by Minka Kent  Hmmm. I went ahead and put this as a Fave, but I’m not sure I liked this book very much. The plot was overall interesting. I listened to this book on Audible, and I think the problem was the two narrators. They were both SO annoying, and I found their perspectives irritating. I wonder if it was just the way they read their parts? I never realized how important the actual audible narrators are. My advice would be to read this book and not listen to it. 3) Hale Navy Paint by Sherwin Williams I love love love this paint color. I first used it in my dining room niches, and recently had my study painted Hale Navy. While it’s still a work in progress, I...

Good morning! I’m telling you, this no social media from 9 am to 9 pm thing really cuts into my Friday Faves timeliness.   1) Oura Ring or lug nut as my husband calls it…My friend Lynn told me about this gadget to help understand my sleep at night as well as activity during the day. Another friend, Cynthia, also uses this for wellness incentive points through her job. I have found I use it a lot more for my sleep. I like to know my heart rate and oxygenation levels. It starts notifying me around 8:30-9 that it’s time to power down for sleep. I also find that I try to get a good “grade” so I try to keep to my bedtime and other things to get good sleep. Ha! I still use my Apple Watch for my steps and to close my rings during the day. 2) These girls and this photo These ladies are my Faves to do life and Bible Study with. I love this photo because it represents a fun night where we hosted our (available) adult children for a wine tasting. What I love most is that we were thrown togeth...

Good morning! Since giving up FB and IG from 9 am to 9 pm for Lent (and I’m loving it, by the way), I have struggled with getting my Faves in. Here I am, bright and early this week to make sure the Faves get done. 1) When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi Hudson read this book a couple of years ago. It is the memoir of Paul Kalanithi, a neurosurgeon at Stanford University, who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in his mid-thirties. He uses the pages in this book not only to tell his story, but also share his ideas on how to approach death with grace and what it means to be fully alive. I copied the summary I just gave you. It is a book way out of my normal genre. Now that Hudson is a doctor, I try to understand his world a little better, I try to look at gross things, ha, and just understand. One “wow” quote for me was this: As a resident, my highest ideal was not saving lives-everyone dies eventually-but guiding a patient or family to an understanding of death or illness....

Friday Faves

Friday Faves bright and early today! I am giving up “scrolling” Facebook and Instagram from 9 am to 9 pm for Lent, so I need to get this posted before that time. It’s been amazing so far, yesterday I cleaned out our entire bathroom because I didn’t have the distraction of social media. 1) The Housewarming by S.E. Lynes My latest completed book of 2023.  It started off slow, and whiny if I’m being honest, but once we got past Ava’s initial anguish, it was really good! I enjoyed it and did not see the twist coming. 2) Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask I like this stuff a lot! I can’t stand the chapped lip feeling and this stuff really helps! 3) Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion So, funny story…I forgot my lotion on our recent trip to Napa. Three of the guys were headed to the grocery store for supplies and I asked them to pick me up some lotion. 😂 Can you imagine what happened? When they got to the lotion aisle, two of them bolted. The one who was left was frozen and did not know what to cho...

Today I’m splitting the difference of Friday Faves. You get last week’s a little late, and this week’s a little early. 1) Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation It’s a long name, and I don’t really know what it says, but I really like it! I got it to replace a spray foundation that was messy. It has a nice amount of coverage. 2) Silver 3D Phone Case I actually love this phone case! It’s so cute, feels great, and my friend even said it makes the phone easier to hold. 3) The Silent Patient I listened to this book on Audible. At first I wasn’t sure if I was liking it, then I decided I actually liked it. I sort of figured out the key player in the plot twist, but did not by any means have it figured out. After I finished the book, I looked up some things about it on the internet. I had missed a few things, but once explained, I really really like the book now. 4) Kenra Thickening Mousse This stuff definitely does it’s job. The first couple of times I used it I looked like I was we...

It’s time for Friday Faves! Here’s what I have been loving this week: 1) It’s a 10 Scalp Restore Miracle Charcoal Shampoo That’s a LONG name for a tiny bottle of shampoo, but my daughter and I were in Ulta in Waco this past weekend and she wanted to try it, so I said I’ll try it too. I’ve used it twice, as a first cleanse, following up with my regular shampoo and conditioner, and I really like it! It removes the build up of product and leaves my hair looking full and fluffy. I’m not sure if I need it every time I shampoo, but I have liked the results both times I have used it. 2) Art from ZGallerie I purchased this piece to go above my mantle. It’s really big, but I love it!  3) The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley I loved this book! It’s not my normal genre, and some of the reviews weren’t glowing. I’m learning to take the reviews on Audible with a grain of salt.   One review said there were too many characters, but that literally supports the premise of the book. ...

Here we go with Friday Faves! (I’m looking at you, Sami and Lili 😉)  1) Heineken 0.0% Alcohol Beer As a lot of you know, I have been doing Dry Weekday January. I thought that would be good because I knew I had a couple of weekend events this month where I might want to partake, but weekdays, no biggie. I forgot about the National Championship Football game and I didn’t know about the Cowboy’s Playoff game. I love beer and football. I took my little self to Kroger to find some O’Douls, but found this and it is SO good! You feel like it’s the real thing! I plan on drinking this well past January! 2) M0DE Electric Toothbrush I bought this for Walt. Not sure how it brushes 😂 I’ll have to ask him, but I love that it plugs directly into the wall, so no cords! He leaves his toothbrush on the vanity and I hate the cord. I also like the fact that every three months they will send us a replacement head, so I don’t have to remember to change it. Bonus: it has a little nightlight on i...

Here are my Faves I have been loving this week: 1) Fluffy Checkered Blanket I loved, and gave, the black and white checkered blankets for Christmas gifts, but decided I wanted to find maybe a blue and white version for myself. I love these! I love the bigger checks and the blue color for my family room.  My gift recipients, Corinne, Hayley and CJ love their black and white ones. Makes my heart happy! (The dog is my fave too!) 2) Bold Vase Art from ZGallerie First of all, I have been LOVING ZGallerie lately (online of course). This artwork is what I didn’t know my bathroom needed, but I love seeing it every time I walk in. And, it’s on sale! It’s a series of 4, but I only have 2 of them. 3) Redee No-Glow Patches Whenever I have even one sip of alcohol my neck and cheeks turn red and get quite warm. It eventually settles down, but I hate it. I didn’t know it was actually a thing that happens to a lot of people, so much so, that someone came up with a darned good solution! Once...

I’m enjoying the reset that January brings. I’ve set some intentions, so here we go… 1) The 52 Weeks I got this book several years ago and started the 52 weeks with my friend, Cynthia. Then, the Pandemic hit, and our challenge kinda fell to the waist side. Fast forward to an evening out with my friend Mona and in honor of her hitting a major birthday milestone this year, she decided to take on the 52 weeks challenge, and I decided to join her. You don’t necessarily have to read the book to do it, I love that the front cover says “Two Women and Their Quest to Get Unstuck”. That pretty much sums it up. We started by brainstorming things we wanted to do this year. Our lists are completely separate although a few things overlap and hopefully we do those together. In an effort to not pick and choose, we put all of our list on slips of paper in a jar. On weeks we don’t have something specifically scheduled, i.e. Girls’ Trips, Napa, etc., we draw a slip and do the thing! For me, on January 1s...

First Faves of 2023

Image
A little late, but here are the first Faves of 2023. 1) Black Coral I love this black coral from Z Gallerie. I do NOT, however, love the piece of styrofoam stuck to it. I hate styrofoam. I have a couple of these, corals not pieces of styrofoam, in our bedroom and I just love them! 2) The Gray Man We watched this movie Friday night and really liked it. It was cheesy action, right up Walt’s alley. The bonus: It was free on Netflix! (Yes, I know I pay for Netflix, but it didn’t cost anything above and beyond.) 3) Cheese Slicer This cheese slicer from Sur La Table was my friend Alison’s “Favorite” from our Favorite (White Elephant) Gift Exchange at our Grow Group Christmas Party. Walt scored this gift from the evening, and I have just loved it!  4) Govee TV Lights These lights are so fun! Hayley and her fiancé gave these to us for Christmas. My future son in law came over and installed them for us. Since our TV sits in a cabinet, we don’t get the benefit of the lights showing on...
